Those who find success in working from home will probably tell you that they put in a lot of work to get where they are. Any offer that promises you can get rich by simply “signing up” is probably a scam.
One reputable work-from-home opportunity that takes some work but has great money-making potential is SMC, which stands for Specialty Merchandise Corporation. There’s a reason it’s been around for over 60 years. If you’re looking to be your own boss and have more freedom in your life, running your own small home business with SMC is a great way to try it out for very little investment.
When you sign up with SMC, you won’t be a salesperson for their corporation, but an actual business owner selling items for your own company. How much you make depends on how much time and work you want to put in.
You can decide to do it on a part-time basis to supplement your regular income. Or you can take it as a serious, full-time business and really throw yourself into researching your markets, finding out what items you can sell best, and make a real effort to make it succeed. It’s these kinds of people that have the most potential to profit from this kind of opportunity. But you CAN make money, with the right attitude and effort.
SMC doesn’t claim that running your own business is easy – but it does make it as affordable and simple-to-manage as possible. Here’s how it works:

These days, getting started making money working from home requires little more than a home computer, an internet connection, a niche, and some motivation. Here are 10 options you can explore.
1. Freelance Writing
If you are creative and have a way with words, consider using your skills to take on writing projects. You can find opportunities at freelancing websites or approach publishing or other content-creation-related companies that outsource their content generation functions. You can also try contributing regularly to online magazines and websites, or write for local magazines and newspapers. Get in touch with the company`s contact person to see if you can get started.
2. Blogging
Blogging involves a special kind of writing, where your opinions count more than anything else. Starting a blog is a good option if you always have a lot to say and a lot of people interested in getting your opinion on specific topics, from your views on current events to your thoughts on restaurants and recipes. Your income will come from finding businesses that are willing to pay you to place advertising or affiliate links on your blog, where you get commission every time your readers click on them. You`ll need to be able to produce quality content on a regular basis to gain a following that will attract advertisers.
3. Product Reviews
You can use your writing skills to review products for companies like epinions.com, which will pay you based on the number of people who find your reviews helpful. You can also record video reviews for websites like Expo TV, where you`ll get paid every time someone uploads your review.

Many people do not understand how I make a living, they are either skeptical and feel I don’t make enough to support myself or they are unrealistic and think I spend all day checking celebrity gossip and counting my money. I can’t blame them of course I used to be both skeptical and unrealistic.
Working from home gives me freedom that most of my friends can only imagine– sleeping in, no commute, no timed lunch breaks, not having to call in sick, the list could go on for pages.
However, it’s not all fun and games. You work irregular hours, the competition is fierce, you are not guaranteed a steady income, there is no health plan or benefits and of course the most negative aspect of working online-scams.
You see the ads all the time “work from home,†“live the life you’ve always dreamed of,†“earn a six figure income in your pajamas.†What some of them should say is, “become a slave to your computer,†“live a life that no one would ever dream of,†“work your tail of for 60 dollars a month,â€Â
But are they all like this? No, of course not, if that were the case no one would be working from home. Determining a scam from a legitimate work at home business starts with research. Whenever you are asked to invest your time and money into something you should make sure it’s worth it. The trouble is doing this research can take up more time and money with
little or no results.
Here are some quick tips to make it easy:
1. Look for contact information on the website
2. Visit Scams.com and ask people in their forums for a review
3. See if you are willing to put in the time to make it work
4. Don’t fall for pictures of fancy cars or even charts of their earnings
However, I noticed that even after I did research I was still skeptical or I got a dazzling review and didn’t look twice before leaping. So here’s my honest advice, there is no magic product. People looking for a get rich plan find scams. But here’s something else to keep in mind every ebook, every ecourse and program will teach you something, even if it is just what to watch out for next time.
The best way to make money online is bring something you enjoy doing and are good at onto the internet. For example if you have a great designer’s eye then you could start a web design business. Likewise if you are good persuading people to do things then affiliate marketing would be perfect for you.
Knowing your talents is the first step to succeeding online. Being willing to put in the effort is the next. Working online is in no way like working a 9-5 job. Most people think they can just quit their day job and find immediate success. For those that think this way, working from home is a nightmare.
They hop from one opportunity to the next, they fall for every trick in the book, and they never take the time to learn how to really make an online business work.
But for those willing to treat an online venture like any business venture, on that requires patients, a little risk and lot of elbow grease then yes working from home can be a dream.

Are you an individual who would like to start your own small business? If you are, you are definitely not alone. When it comes to starting a small business, there are many other individuals out there who have similar goals and dreams. Unfortunately, not everyone is able to accomplish their goal of starting their own business or turn their dream into a reality. Many actually give it a try, but many find that their small business ends up costing them much more money than it made them. To prevent yourself from being one of those small business owners, ones that often can’t make it past the two year mark; you will want to make sure that you carefully choose which type of small business you want to open.
When it comes to deciding which type of small business you would like to open, there are a number of important factors that first need to be examined. Perhaps, before focusing on the type of business that you would like to run, like whether you will end up selling products or services and what, you may want to focus on how you plan on running your small business. For instance, do you plan on running your small business out of your home? Do you want to rent a commercial building space? Do you want to run an online business? Do you want to do a combination of them all? How you want to run a business or how you are able to run a business should have a significant impact on the type of business that you are interested in starting.
When examining the type of businesses that you can start, it is advised that you sit down and create a list of things that interest you or topics that you are knowledgeable about. For instance, do you like working with children? If you do, you may want to think about starting your own daycare center or preschool. If you have a little bit of a teaching background the better your chances of success are. Another example can involve your love for pets. Do you enjoy working with pets? If you do, you may want to think about starting your own pet supply store, dog grooming business, or pet sitting service. Starting a small business based on something that you not only know, but also love, will up your chances of your business being a successful one.
Although it is advised that you choose a start a small business based around something that you know and love, that shouldn’t be the only factor that you examine. You also need to examine your competition. When running an online business, you can expect to receive a lot of competition online, as that is just how the internet works. When it comes to starting your own local business, you will want to start a business that has a relatively small amount of competition. In fact, the smaller the amount of competition, the better it will be for you and your business. For instance, if you live in a small town and there are already two or three pet setting services available, it is advised that you do not start another one, as the demand will not be as high as the supply.
Since most businesses, even those that are locally owned and operated, do have competition, it may be a good idea to check out the competition before you decide to start your own business. When checking out your competition, this is easier done if the competition is a retail store or an establishment that you can walk right into. What you will want to do is examine the products or the services available for sale, as well as the costs of each. If you do not think that you can compete with your intended competition, it may be difficult for you and your small business to make a profit; therefore, you may want to refrain from going with your intended business idea. That doesn’t mean that you can’t start a small business, it just means that you should carefully choose which type of business you start.

Investors start businesses for various reasons. You may want a better lifestyle for you and your family, or you may be tired of working for others. However, starting a business, no matter what the reason, is not easy. You will have to have dedication and patience.
First, you have to find something you are interested in. Just because something to profitable for one person, does not mean that you are going to be successful. The key is to find something that interests you, because if you are not interested in it, then chances are you will not be able to give the time and effort that it takes to be successful.
You will have to look into what you are interested in, then you will have to research various businesses or investments. For example: if you are interested in collecting old antiques, then you may want to consider starting an antiques business. Get a piece of paper and write down all your interests and business ideas that is related to that topic. This is the first step to starting your business.
Once you have decided what interests you, then you will need to start researching what kind of business you will want. Depending on your situation, you will have a number of options including: an online business, physical business(a business that has a store or office), a mobile business (a business where you provide products or services onsite), or home based business. What would benefit you and your business more? If you are not sure, you may want to consider starting with a few different options to see what works the best.
Next, you will have to consider your resources. If you are selling products, where will you obtain these products? Are their distributors in the area? If you are selling services, such as construction and remodeling, do you have all the necessary tools to complete the jobs? If your business is going to be online, do you have the necessary knowledge to work with the websites you will need (eBay, creating your own website, etc). If not, do you know someone who can? You will have to consider all of these factors.
Once you get an idea of what you are wanting to do, and whether or not you have the resources to complete it, you will then want to consider where the money will come from. The old saying “you need money to make money†is extremely true when it comes to starting a business. Initially, you will need money to obtain your location, you products, or your resources necessary to complete your services. Then once you launch your business, you will need money to live on until your business become successful (your business may not be profitable for awhile). Unless you have the money on hand, you may want to consider looking into business loans or grants.
Finally, once you have completed the plan for your business, you will then have to start thinking about promoting it, after all, a business is not profitable without customers and clientele. What type of advertising best suits your business? Will you advertise locally or nationally?
There are several types of advertising. Media advertising includes placing ads on radio stations, television channels, and in various other publications. These types of ads are often much more affordable then larger types of advertising. Alternatively, you may want to consider larger advertising such as billboard, or online marketing such as website.
